Population and villages


The town of Ivanec includes 29 villages: Bedenec, Cerje Tuzno, Gacice, Geckovec, Horvatsko, Ivanec, Ivanecka Zeljeznica, Ivanecki Vrhovec, Ivanecko Naselje, Jerovec, Kaniza, Knapic, Lancic, Lovrecan, Lukavec, Margecan, Osecka, Pece, Prigorec, Punikve, Radovan, Ribic Breg, Salinovec, Seljanec, Staznjevec, Skriljevec, Vitesinec, Vuglovec i Zeljeznica. The total population of the town of Ivanec is 13 758, and the number of households is 4097, which means that the average number of household members is 3.36 members.
Population density in the town of Ivanec is 145,28 per square kilometer, thus being higher than in the Varazdin County (139,50 per square kilometer). Ivanec has the highest population (5234), whereas Knapic has the smallest number of inhabitants- only 62.

Depopulation is present in the majority of villages. According to the 2011 Population Census the town population (13 758) is lower by 4.68% (676 residents) compared to the 2001 population, when it amounted to 14 434.

The natural increase in population was negative in 2010 ( -42 inhabitants). Vital index (the ratio of births to deaths) was 76.3. (Table 2)

The participation of the agricultural population in the overall structure of population has decreased, especially in the town of Ivanec urban centre. Therefore the process of deagrarization has been present, caused by the industrialization process in the area, which tells us that urbanization is becoming more and more present in this traditionally agricultural area.
